Lieutenant Colonel Steven P. Hulse MALS-29 Commanding Officer

LtCol Steven P. Hulse is a native of Arkansas and enlisted in the Marine Corps in December 1987.  He graduated recruit training from San Diego in March of 1988 and attended H-1 Helicopter Power Plants, Rotors and Related systems school in Millington, Tennessee.

In July of 1988 he reported for duty to HMLA 369, MAG 39.  Assigned to HMLA 369 he deployed (5) times in support of: the 13th and 15th MEUs, Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia Africa, and to Okinawa Japan in support of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP).  At HMLA 369 he served as an UH-1N helicopter Crew Chief, Aerial Gunner Instructor, Weapons and Tactics Instructor, full systems Quality Assurance Representative and Plane Captain on both the UH-1N and AH-1W helicopters.

August of 1994 Sergeant Hulse reported to HMX-1 and cross-trained to a Crew Chief on CH-46E and CH-53D/E helicopters supporting lift missions of the President of the United States.  As a Maintenance Controller SSgt Hulse was designated Safe-for-Flight certified on four Type/Model/Series helicopters.

GySgt Hulse was assigned to HMLA 169 in July of 1998 and served as the Quality Assurance Chief.  In February 1999 he was appointed to Warrant Officer and reported to the Warrant Officer Basic Course in Quantico, Virginia.

In July of 1999, Warrant Officer Hulse was assigned to HMLA 369 and served as the Maintenance Material Control Officer.  He deployed (4) times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the UDP to Okinawa Japan.

Captain Hulse reported to MALS 39 to serve as the Production Control Officer (PCO) in July of 2004.  In May of 2007 he reported to MALS 13 for assignment as the MALS 13 PCO in support of the AV8B Harrier.

In May of 2010 Major Hulse reported for duty as the MALS 39 Aircraft Maintenance Officer and served as the H-1 T/M/S and CH-46E T/M/S maintenance team lead.  In July of 2012 Major Hulse deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and served concurrently as the Assistant Chief of Staff (AC/S) Aviation Logistics Department (ALD), an 8040 O6 billet, and as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer on the 3MAW (FWD) staff.

In July of 2013, Major Hulse checked aboard Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13 to service as the Aircraft Maintenance Officer in support of the AV8B and the F35 Lighting.

In August of 2015 LtCol Hulse reported for duty as the 2d MAW Aircraft Maintenance Officer aboard MCAS Cherry Point North Carolina and served on the 2d MAW staff until April of 2018.  May 2018, LtCol Hulse reported to NAVAIR HQ aboard NAS Patuxent River where he served at the Assistant Program Manager / Logistics on the H-1 Light Attack Helicopter Program. 

In June 2019, LtCol Hulse took command of the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 “Wolverines”

LtCol Hulse's decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Gold Stars, (4) Air Medals [individual and strike awards], (4) Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals [with combat V], (3) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star, the Presidential Service Badge and various service, campaign, and unit awards.  He is also the 2014 recipient of the CAPT Virgil J. Lemon Award, and the 2004 recipient of the MCAA Aviation Ground Maintenance Officer of the Year Award.
