Sergeant Major Chad M. Coston is a native of Louisiana, and enlisted in the Marine Corps on 1 June 1994. Upon completion of Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego California, Private Coston attended Assault Amphibian School in Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion, Private First Class Coston was awarded the MOS 1833 Assault Amphibian Vehicle (AAV) Crewman.
He has served in a wide array of duties to include AAV Crewman, Crew Chief, and Section Leader with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival, Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor, Primary Marksmanship Instructor and Training and Readiness Chief with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Personal Reliability Chief, and Training Chief for Marine Corps Security Force Company Kings Bay, Georgia, Inspector Instructor First Sergeant for 4th Assault Amphibian Vehicle Battalion, Alpha Company Gulfport, Mississippi, Company First Sergeant for Lima Company 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines.
His assignments as a unit Sergeant Major include Battalion Sergeant Major of 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines (fleeted up), 1st Battalion 12th Marines, Recruiting Station San Antonio and current position as Marine Air Group-29 Sergeant Major.
