Lieutenant Colonel Corey S. Healey attended the Platoon Leader’s Course and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from LeMoyne College in 2006. After graduating from The Basic School in July of 2007, he attended Aviation Pre-Flight Indoctrination in Pensacola, Florida, and completed Primary and Advanced Flight School at Naval Air Station Whiting Field. Lieutenant Colonel Healey was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2009 and reported to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303 to learn to fly the AH-1W Super Cobra.
Lieutenant Colonel Healey was then assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing from September 2009 to September 2012. During this time, he was the AH-1W NATOPS Officer and Pilot Training Officer. He deployed to Camp Bastion, Helmand Province Afghanistan from May to November 2010 and again from November 2011 to May 2012 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon returning from his second deployment, he was designated a Night Systems Instructor in the AH-1W. In September 2012, he graduated from Tactical Air Control Party school and received the designation as a Forward Air Controller (FAC).
Lieutenant Colonel Healey reported to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines, 5th Marine Regiment from October 2012 to December 2013. During this time, he deployed as a battalion FAC on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit from May to November 2013. In January 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Healey reported back to HMLA-369 and began the series conversion to the AH-1Z Viper. Later that year he attended Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 1-15 and upon graduating as a WTI, Lieutenant Colonel Healey became the Tactics Officer, and held subsequent billets as the Director of Safety and Standardization and Assistant Aviation Maintenance Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Healey was then assigned to Naval Special Warfare Development Group in Dam Neck, Virginia from May 2016 to June 2018 as a Fire Support Officer. At the conclusion of this assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Healey attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and graduated in July 2019.
Lieutenant Colonel Healey reported back to HMLA-369 and deployed as part of the Unit Deployment Program to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan from November 2019 to June 2020 as the Assistant Operations Officer. After the deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Healey held the billets of Operations Officer and Executive Officer and in June of 2021 he reported to MAG-39 to become the group’s Assistant Operations Officer. In June 2022, Lieutenant Colonel Healey received follow on orders to MAG-29 at MCAS New River, North Carolina.
Lieutenant Colonel Healey’s personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Oak Leaf Cluster in Lieu of 2nd award, Air Medal with Strike Flight Numeral 9, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Gold Star in Lieu of 2nd award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Gold Star in Lieu of 2nd award.
