Command Biographies
MALS-29 Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Colonel Mark D. Morgan

Lieutenant Colonel Morgan, a native of Ohio, enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserves, and graduated from basic training at Parris Island, SC in June 1997 before obtaining the Military Occupational Specialty of Engineer Equipment Operator.  Upon completion of formal schools, PFC Morgan was assigned to Landing Support Equipment Company, 4th LSB, 4th FSSG, Vienna, OH.  He was selected for the Platoon Leadership Course while serving in the Active Reserves, and attended Officer Candidate School in 1998 and 2001.  Sergeant Morgan was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in October 2002.

Second Lieutenant Morgan graduated from The Basic School in December of 2003.  Upon completion, he was assigned to Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG)-21, Pensacola, FL, where he successfully completed Naval Aviation Flight Training and was assigned to Training Squadron Three (VT-3), Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Milton, FL.  Second Lieutenant Morgan elected for re-designation, and completed Aviation Maintenance Officer’s School at NAS Whiting Field, FL in 2004. 

In July of 2004 he reported for duty to MALS-14 at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC where he served as the Aviation Life Support System (ALSS) Division officer for six months.  First Lieutenant Morgan transferred to Marine Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 (VMAQ-2), Cherry Point, NC in February 2005 and served as the Material Maintenance Control Officer (MMCO).  He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006.
 
In December 2006, First Lieutenant Morgan received orders to Recruiting Station Cleveland, OH and was assigned as the Operations Officer.  In June 2008, Captain Morgan assumed the duties of Executive Officer.

Captain Morgan executed orders to MALS-24, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, HI in September 2009.  He served as the ALSS Division Officer before assuming the duties of the AIRSpeed Department Officer, where he led the process improvement implementation efforts until August 2011.  Captain Morgan assumed the responsibilities of the Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Officer (AAMO) in September 2011.

In June 2012, Captain Morgan was transferred to the Joint Staff J7, Future Joint Force Development Directorate, Joint Wargaming Division in Suffolk, Va.  He was frocked and later promoted to Major. He served as an Action Officer, conducting experimentation and wargaming for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. 

Major Morgan re-joined MALS-14 in July 2016 where he served as the Operations Officer.  In June 2018, Major Morgan assumed the duties as the Executive Officer. During this tour he was selected and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Morgan transferred to the 9th Marine Corps District in July 2019 to serve as the Operations Officer for officer, enlisted, and prior service accessions.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Morgan assumed command of the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29 “Wolverines” in August 2020.

Lieutenant Colonel Morgan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University. He is a 2012 graduate of the Joint & Combined Warfighting School (JCWS) JPME-II at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va.  He is also a 2015 graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Va., earning a Master’s Degree in Military Studies.

Lieutenant Colonel Morgan’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of third award).
