Major Joseph C. Elseroad HMH-366 Executive Officer

Major Elseroad was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2003.  He completed the Basic Officers Course in Quantico, Virginia and reported to NAS Pensacola in April 2004. He was designated a Naval Aviator in June 2005.

First Lieutenant Elseroad reported to HMHT-302 at MCAS New River, NC for training at the CH-53E FRS. In January 2005 he reported to MAG-24, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, for series conversion training to the CH-53D.  Upon completion of conversion training, First Lieutenant Elseroad reported to HMH-363, the “Red Lions.” He was assigned as a schedule writer and deployed to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 05-07 from July 2006 to February 2007. Upon return from deployment, First Lieutenant Elseroad transitioned to the Pilot Training Officer billet and was promoted to Captain. In March 2008, Captain Elseroad, attended the Aviation Safety Officer Course in Pensacola and was designated as the Aviation Safety Officer for the “Red Lions.” Captain Elseroad served in this billet during the squadron’s deployment to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 08.2 from August 2008 – March 2009.  In June 2009, Captain Elseroad reported to the MAG-24 Standardization Department to serve as a CH-53D instructor pilot and CH-53D NATOPS Evaluator.  In this role he provided CH-53D conversion training for pilots. 

Upon completion of his tour at MAG-24 in January 2010, Captain Elseroad transferred to HMHT-302 for duty as a CH-53E Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot.  During his time at HMHT-302, Captain Elseroad served as the S-5 Officer, Airframes Officer, and Quality Assurance Officer.

In June 2013, Captain Elseroad transferred to Marine Corps University, Quantico, VA to attend the Command and Staff College. During this tour, Captain Elseroad was promoted to Major and successfully completed intermediate level professional military education. 

Following Command and Staff College, Major Elseroad was transferred to Camp Lejeune, NC to serve as a faculty advisor for the Expeditionary Warfare School Blended Seminar Program. In this billet he oversaw multiple conference groups of company grade Marine Officers in the completion of their career level professional military education.

Major Elseroad reported back to MAG-29 in August 2016 and was assigned to HMH-366.  From August 2016 until January 2017 he served as the Director of Safety and Standardization.  Major Elseroad assumed the duties of Executive Officer of HMH-366 in January 2017.

Major Elseroad holds a Master of Military Studies from MCU. His personal decorations include the Air Medal with Strike/Flight Numeral 6, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and he was the 2008 recipient of the General James L Jones Safety Award.
